Cookie jar recipe

It’s hard to buy for my neighbors and my son’s teachers. I don’t know them well enough to buy gifts or even a gift card to their favorite place, so this year I decided to try making those ‘cookie in a jar’ things. And I think they turned out pretty well.

I bought a dozen walmart-brand plain front (important) glass jars for like $6. I bought some Christmas-y fabric (you’ll need a 6” square for each jar), ribbon and already had the labels.

Here’s our Cookie recipe:
1 1/3 cup all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup cooking oats
3/4 cup red & green M&Ms
3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 slightly beaten egg
1/2 cup slightly meltd butter
1 teaspoon vanilla

So after the jars were washed and dried, here’s how I packed the goodies in:

First: flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt
Second: oats
Third: M&Ms
Fourth: chocolate chips
Fifth: brown sugar
Sixth: white sugar

Make sure you pack the jar after each layer so you’ll be able to fit it all in. Then add the lid, cover with the fabric and tie the ribbon. Then add a little label with your own personal design and letting them know what ingredients they need to add. In this case:
1 slightly beaten egg
1/2 cup slightly melted butter.
1 teaspoon vanilla

Add the label and give them away!
