You may have heard the news about Walgreens and Express Script parting ways already. Despite Walgreens efforts over the past year to negotiate a new contract with Express Script, they were unsuccessful in reaching an agreement. As a result, all Walgreens pharmacies and Duane Reade pharmacies are no longer in the Express Scripts’ pharmacy provider network. Which means that the Express Scripts’ customers are forced to change pharmacists, having to drive farther to get prescriptions filled and aren’t seeing lower costs at the checkout either.

They are offering a special discount to the Walgreens Prescription Savings Club. Basically, a family would pay $10 for a yearly membership that covers the entire immediate family, including your spouse, all children under the age of 22 and your pets. In return, you receive special discount prices on all your prescriptions. That means big savings on more than 8,000 brand-name medications and on all generic medications. Plus, discounts on flu shots, pet prescriptions, nebulizers and diabetic supplies. And you get bonuses when you purchase Walgreens brand products and photofinishing services.
